
Friend: Shooting victim ‘knew what was important’
Emily Hazelbaker was the woman everyone wanted to be around, one of her friends said Saturday.
“She was a great listener — so easy to talk to,” MacKenzie Bills said. “She knew what was important in life: family and friends.”
Hazelbaker, 18, died Friday night at her Ankeny apartment after allegedly being shot once by her father, Scott Merle Hazelbaker, in what police said appeared to be a tragic accident. According to a news release issued Saturday, authorities took possession of a handgun at the apartment at 903 S.E. Delaware Ave.
